Director, Academic Financial Services and Systems

Amy Oates is Director of Academic Financial Services and Systems in the Office of the Provost. Oates is responsible for directing and coordinating the budget preparation and long-range financial planning process for schools, programs, and academic administrative units under the jurisdiction of the Provost. In addition, Oates works with the administrative offices, directors and deans to ensure compliance with established budgets and operational plans.

Oates has been at Duke University for almost 18 years and worked in Auxiliary Finance and Cost Accounting. Prior to undertaking current responsibilities in the Provost's Office, Oates served as Assistant Director of Financial Affairs & Systems at the Medical Center.

In addition to her role as Director, Oates serves on many campus committees, including, Budget Working Group, SISS Advisory Committee, Enrollment Management Committee and Duke Center for International Development Advisory Council.

Oates received her B. A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983.
