Scott Lindroth has been on the faculty at Duke since the fall of 1990, having earned degrees in music composition from the Eastman School of Music (BM 1980) and the Yale School of Music (DMA 1991). His work as a composer has centered on instrumental and vocal media, including compositions for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and the Ciompi Quartet. He has also composed music for dance, theater, and video. Recordings of his work are available on CRI, Equilibrium, and the Centaur labels. Recent works include Azaan for soprano and string quartet, and a collaborative work called Awaken , for live musicians and electronic sound with video by Anya Belkina.

 

Professor Lindroth teaches undergraduate seminars in electronic music (MUS 153-154S), music theory, and graduate seminars on composition-related topics. With Stephen Jaffe and Anthony Kelley, he presents the concert series Encounters with the Music of Our Time each year, featuring music by distinguished visiting composers in residence in performances by Duke faculty artists and visiting performers.
