International Affairs & Development
To support the University's commitment to internationalization, the Office of International Affairs and Development was established in 1995 to facilitate coordination among the University's international programs and provide a locus for new initiatives. Today, the role of this office has expanded to include development activities for this specific purpose as well as for University initiatives as a whole. The main focus of the office remains the enhancement and encouragement of internationalization by promoting international development on campus and increasing Duke's presence around the world.
Specific aspects of the office's responsibilities include:
- aiding in the development of university-wide international initiatives
- strengthening existing international programs and research
- forging partnerships with foreign universities
- facilitating the increased emphasis on language study at Duke
- supporting international conferences and international travel for faculty and graduate students
- increasing the enrollment of foreign graduate students at Duke, and seeking to enhance financial aid opportunities for them
