Eni Owoeye is a graduate student whose intellect, leadership, and generosity of spirit have made a significant impact on our community. Eni's commitment to service goes beyond academic achievement; it is woven into the fabric of her daily life and interactions.

Eni demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility towards strengthening communities, both within and beyond Duke. Since 2023, she has been a dedicated volunteer with Hope North Carolina, supporting their mission to create inclusive housing options. Her involvement extends to the 2024 Inclusive Housing Conference, where she advocated for equitable housing solutions for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Eni is also committed to bridging relationships between Duke and Durham. As a graduate assistant for Duke Service Learning, she supported experiential education for undergraduates that encouraged thoughtful engagement with the Durham community. Her leadership on the Keep Durham Beautiful Board of Directors has brought together a diverse group of volunteers in environmental stewardship and community projects, including re-entering individuals.

At Duke, Eni serves as President of Policy in Living Color and Co-President of the Sanford Africa Policy Group, creating spaces for aspiring policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogue and service. Her leadership in the Master’s Impact Challenge, an interdisciplinary hackathon, provided a unique opportunity for professional students to collaborate. Additionally, her work with the Sanford Career Office has strengthened support for students of color pursuing careers in the federal government. As a teaching assistant for an environmental negotiations class, she connects students with potential clients and employers in environmental justice and social equity organizations. She also participates in the Center for Reconciliation’s spiritual formation cohort. 

Eni is known for her humility and the care with which she approaches every act of service. She consistently creates opportunities for others and empowers them to step into leadership roles. Her actions reflect a deep desire to serve others and build a more inclusive and compassionate community.
