Comments Sought for Regular Review of Suzanne Barbour, Dean of The Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education
Provost Alec D. Gallimore has appointed a committee to conduct a review of Suzanne Barbour, dean of The Graduate School and vice provost for graduate education.
Duke conducts regular reviews of all deans, vice provosts, senior staff and faculty members who have major administrative positions reporting to the provost. Dean Barbour has been serving in her role since September 2022.
The committee is chaired by Michael Gehm, professor of electrical and computer engineering. Other members include the following:
- Merlise Clyde, professor of statistical science, Trinity College of Arts & Sciences
- Patrick Halpin, professor of marine geospatial ecology, Nicholas School of the Environment
- Cory Krupp, professor of the practice, Sanford School of Public Policy
- Meta Kuehn, associate professor of biochemistry, School of Medicine
- Michael Relf, dean of the School of Nursing and Mary T. Champagne Distinguished Professor of Nursing
- Carlos Rojas, professor of Asian and Middle Eastern studies, Trinity College of Arts & Sciences
- Peng Sun, J.B. Fuqua Distinguished Professor of Business Administration, Fuqua School of Business
An important part of the review process is gathering input from the university's many constituencies. Observations regarding Dean Barbour’s leadership and suggestions for the future of graduate education at Duke are important for the committee’s work. The committee invites members of the Duke community to share their thoughts by email or by using this online form.
Communication should include the nature of interactions with Dean Barbour, her team, and the areas under her purview so that the committee can understand the context of comments as fully as possible.
All information will be treated as confidential and will be shared with the members of the review committee only. An aggregate summary of submitted comments will be included in the committee's written report to the provost.
The deadline for submitting comments is March 13, 2026.
