A New Academic Year

This message was sent to all Duke faculty, staff, and students.
Dear Duke community,
Greetings at the start of a new academic year!
Our faculty and staff have been hard at work for many weeks preparing for the fall semester. This year, they’ve done so in the midst of significant change as the university has undertaken a strategic realignment of our operations and workforce. Many of our colleagues are in new roles, have taken on new responsibilities, or are learning new processes; if you are a student or faculty member, you may see new faces (or places) when you seek out staff support.
But navigating change is nothing new for Duke. My senior leadership colleagues and I are committed to advancing Duke’s academic mission, preserving our uniquely supportive and collaborative culture, and providing an exceptional student experience. We have exciting new developments in areas ranging from the arts to AI and new opportunities to engage authentically with each other, our community, and the world. In short, we are still Duke, and we have a great deal to look forward to this year.
On this first day of classes for many of our students, the university is once again alive with the thrill of learning, discovery, and connection, giving all of us an opportunity to experience what makes Duke such a special place. I wish you the best in your work and studies and look forward to seeing you around campus.
Sincerely,
Alec D. Gallimore, Ph.D.
