Director of Communications
Carolyn Gerber joined the Provost’s Office in August 2024 as director of communications. She was previously the special assistant to the vice president for communications, marketing, and public affairs. A member of the leadership team for Duke’s Centennial Celebration in 2024, she is the author of the Centennial coffee-table book, Duke University: The First One Hundred Years (Duke University Press, 2024). She was also part of the team that created the digital Duke Campus History Tour and provided the audio narration on the app.
Carolyn has helped to support the Duke University Board of Trustees since 2014. She was a founding editor of Duke’s award-winning e-newsletters, The Duke Daily and The Duke Weekly. From 2010 to 2017, Carolyn worked in the President's Office at Duke, serving as special assistant to President Richard H. Brodhead.
Carolyn is a 1990 graduate of Duke and also pursued graduate work in the Ph.D. program in English. She then worked in Duke's Office of Undergraduate Admissions, where she was responsible for reading all applications from North and South Carolina. From 2001 to 2010, she lived in Singapore, where she worked in the administration of the National University of Singapore.
